Urist Goldsmith, Dwarven Monster Hunter.

Your Grandfather, Dad Goldsmith, has gone missing and has been accused of being a Vampyre. This has cast a dark light over your whole clan, and as Dad's closest direct relative, your dad has delegated the Responsibility to you. (You do not have a child to delegate the responsability to, sadly)

That responsibility being an independent investigation into what happened to Dad, and to do something about it.

To make matters worse, the accusations are being leveled by your sworn enemies, the Silvermaker Clan, and the Mayor is taking these accusations very seriously, against your Clans wishes.

All official funding and work being provided to the Goldsmith Clan are being suspended until a method to test for Vampyrism can be found by the Church. And as a result all private funding and work is being pulled aswell, out of fear.

You're standing in your bedroom, a rare luxury for dwarves in this fortress, with rough natural stone walls and floor. You have a Chert Stone Bed, and a Magnetite Chest full of spare clothes.

You're wearing a Candle Helmet made of a Gold Alloy, Fine Pig Tail Cloths, and a Llama Leather Backpack.

In your Backpack, you have an Iron Crossbow (Loaded), 2 Steel Bolts, a Marble Rosary, 2 Candles, and a Novelty Lighter.

Your Backpack is full.

Corporate warfare is like watching two spoiled demigods playing an RTS game with our lives on their parents' phones.

Best way to determine the properties of a vampire is to study a vampire. Go out adventuring, capture a vampire, torture them to determine their properties, and compare the results when testing your father.

Alright, time to try to track Dad down. Start asking around to see who saw him last. Ask if he was asking strange, and if he said anything that might be related to leaving. Go to wherever he was seen last to see if you can find any evidence of foul play. Usually when someone goes missing it's because they've been killed. Maybe not even killed by a dwarf, depending on how close he was to the entrance.

Try engraving a slab to their memory to see if they're dead and how.

#1 rule of being a Dwarf: You need alcohol to get through the working day.

Make a beeline (or whatever path your permissions allow) for the fortress tavern and get a drink!

Mentally examine your skills (or engrave it, if its easier). Have you made an artifact, or otherwise undergone a Strange Mood?

time to make a mental check of everything we have.
Beard? check.
reliable weapon, preferably an axe? check.
First ale of the day? no. Thus that is our first priority before we clear the family name.

To think such opulence as this room could fall in the hands of the Silvermaker clan is infuriating.

Do we have anyone we can trust if we leave the fortress to pursue this investigation?
We don't have a child but is there someone else?
