First one who notices that you've escaped hell is, oddly, the ship's rear lookout.

Up in front, the sandy wastes of Creation's South are barely different from various less-silvery reaches of the Endless Desert, far from where it encircles the Demon City. Five days after you set out, though, mountains suddenly became visible all along the horizon behind you.

Border between sand and mountains is sharp: cliff face at least a quarter-mile high - more than your airship's usual cruising altitude - and overhanging by about ten degrees.
Above the cliff, slopes continue upward at angles more plausibly climbable. There might be a plateau, valleys with farms... you'd have to get closer to see.
Twenty miles to the north, sections of the cliff have collapsed, producing a broad fan-shaped swath of rocky hills which might include some path traversible by wagons. Other than that, the natural barrier seems impassably high out to the limit of visibility in both directions, possibly a hundred miles or more.

Either this is somewhere a little bit west of the southern third of the Diamond Road, between Gem and the Lap, or you are completely lost.

Honestly, "lost" sounds more fun.

Xi-hun who's in the middle of telling a story to two of the crew at the helm "...ya so that's how I managed to steal a bunch of stuff from Lookshy last season, wait what? Mountains? OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT!" No expecting any terrain where she was supposed to come out of Cecelyne, Xi-hun starts spinning the wheel to avoid any potential collision, first at port side before quickly spinning the wheel the other way to take a sharp turn to starboard. The rest of the crew probably gets as violent a warning their out of hell as possible.

Malice was asleep, upside-down, in the cargo hold when the whole ship lurched and sent her clattering into a stack of canned crew supplies.

After a few minutes, that lazy batgirl (who Xi-hun only sees during mealtime, if the captain ever pays much attention to her subordinates at all) wanders out onto the deck. Batgirl's fur is nasty with bits of tuna and some kind of pungent sauce. "Squeep?"
