First one who notices that you've escaped hell is, oddly, the ship's rear lookout.

Up in front, the sandy wastes of Creation's South are barely different from various less-silvery reaches of the Endless Desert, far from where it encircles the Demon City. Five days after you set out, though, mountains suddenly became visible all along the horizon behind you.

Border between sand and mountains is sharp: cliff face at least a quarter-mile high - more than your airship's usual cruising altitude - and overhanging by about ten degrees.
Above the cliff, slopes continue upward at angles more plausibly climbable. There might be a plateau, valleys with farms... you'd have to get closer to see.
Twenty miles to the north, sections of the cliff have collapsed, producing a broad fan-shaped swath of rocky hills which might include some path traversible by wagons. Other than that, the natural barrier seems impassably high out to the limit of visibility in both directions, possibly a hundred miles or more.

Either this is somewhere a little bit west of the southern third of the Diamond Road, between Gem and the Lap, or you are completely lost.

Honestly, "lost" sounds more fun.

Xi-hun who's in the middle of telling a story to two of the crew at the helm "...ya so that's how I managed to steal a bunch of stuff from Lookshy last season, wait what? Mountains? OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT!" No expecting any terrain where she was supposed to come out of Cecelyne, Xi-hun starts spinning the wheel to avoid any potential collision, first at port side before quickly spinning the wheel the other way to take a sharp turn to starboard. The rest of the crew probably gets as violent a warning their out of hell as possible.

An hour after dawn and below deck, an armored figure sits, eyes closed and ears still, as the last vestiges of green sparkles fade. Moments later her surroundings shake and judder as the entire vessel rapidly turns one way, and then the other. Granite cat-eyes snap open, just in time to see unsecured cargo tumble over.

"Knocking things over for me? Heh. Well, I'll see what that's about in a moment." she muses in Old Realm.

Anjanya stands, morning meditation complete, and with a flare of Essence, begins casting a spell. As it completes, her skin (exposed only on her head) turns an ashen bronze, a terrible green aura surrounds her figure, and perfect disc of white flame erupts on her brow. She then walks out onto deck (her footfalls seeming more like stomps at her current weight) behind the diminutive bat. "Right then, what's going on?"

The Defiler cast Unbreakable Bones of Stone an hour earlier (17 personal, 3 peripheral) and meditated (recovering 8m personal and allowing her anima to fade). After casting Invulnerable Skin of Bronze she's down to 0/19 personal, (9+18)/40 peripheral, 10/16 anima.

Akemi has spent the past 5 days trying to hide from her familiar Seki. Faced with the waking nightmare of becoming... Anathama, disgracing the dragons, the Peleps blood, the realm...
well, she's been doing just about anything she can to avoid thinking about it. To her great dismay, the... thing her tutor has become is seemingly capable of swimming through her flesh to sober her up. Trying to get shitfaced has been all but impossible while confined to this ship, and as such she has spent half the trip in a fugue state dissociating and the other half in some sort of manic-panic, cooking, cleaning, dancing, and trying distract herself by being too busy to think about how she's literally feeding her blood to demons to avoid thinking about what her father is going to do to her when he finds her.

She doesn't know what she's supposed to do here. Start some sort of demon colony? Usurp the natural order of the realm? She's never exactly been good at following the immaculate teachings, but, that doesn't mean she wants to go out and start sacrificing innocents to a cult. As the ship lurches, and people go scurrying to the top of the deck, Akemi crawls out of the dark corner she was hiding in and makes for the surface. She breaths the thin air, feeling it catch in her chest, almost painfully. Seeing the realm, it begins to set in that she's not going to just wake up from this. This isn't just bad luck, or a nightmare- it's her life now. And like it or not, she's stuck with the freaks and the demons, far from home. If this is the reward she gets for rebelling, for going against cruelty and stubbornness... it might be time to embrace her new gifts.

She steps up on to the railing, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. Her arms, outstretched to either side, feel the wind whip and tug at her. Slowly, then with a sudden lurch, she lets it drag her over the edge, and falls backwards off the rails in a dive.

After feeling the rushing wind envelope her for a moment, then another, then another, the rest of the crew see a massive wasp pull alongside it, Akemi half-screaming, half cackling on it's back.
"YOU BASTARDS COULDN'T BREAK ME! YOU COULDN'T TAKE MY SPIRIT! I AM BACK, AND I AM GOING TO TEAR DOWN EVERYTHING YOU STAND FOR! IF YOU WANT ME DEAD SO BADLY FATHER, YOU'LL HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF! COME KILL ME YOURSELF BASTARD! I WON'T ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS! AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

She and Kai speed through the air, dancing and laughing and chasing birds. Spending 7 peripheral motes on the first malfean excellency for any riding stunts she's pulling off, wanting to enjoy the surge of essence and flare of her anima, feeling her control and power.

The ship is pointed neither up nor down, at most likely pointed in a direction that allows for both viewing the most relevant things from its side while not being pointed at one of the cliffs or mountains.
Xi-hun is trying to figure out where she is, first with trying to find the poles second with trying to find signs of civilization. If it's small enough it probably mean that her and the crew will be going to have fun invading with the rest of the Princess welcome to join in any potential assault.

Six successes to spot anything with a combined range and subtlety penalty of -5 dice or less, which is about two and a half miles for vision, much further for hearing. Total of twelve successes to spot concealed natives of Malfeas within that range, and short of magic there's not much they could do to impair that.

Above the nearest part of the cliff there's about a hundred square miles of grassy plateau, and a small town built into a canyon leading down toward the hills. Of the town's current 618 (+/- 3) human residents with audible breathing or heartbeats, just over 10% - fifty-two adults and eleven children - count as natives of Malfeas. None of the sheep, poultry, or camels do, so exact headcount of those would be trickier. Only significant structure poking above the rim of the canyon is a narrow stone tower, with a large brass bell visible inside. Some faint Old Realm inscriptions are visible up inside the rim of that bell, which...
>craft 0, lore 0
...Malice doesn't recognize, though she might be able to sketch the shapes for someone else to interpret. Bell itself also counts as a native of Malfeas, and there seems to be a church down under it.
Three people in the basement of said church are currently having a heated argument: a man, a woman, and a boy maybe twelve years old. Of those three, only the man (who seems to be tied to a chair) isn't a native of Malfeas. Can't quite parse the individual words. Probably because it's a language Malice doesn't speak... or it could be due to interference from all the other chatter of the town, multiple thick walls, and the fact that you're still miles away.

Anjanya and Xi-Hun both have 4 dice in (Perception + Awareness), and the captain's spyglass likely provides a tool bonus, so her eyes aren't any better than his. The Glass Spider does have enhanced hearing (+2 dice), though, so with the more-perceptive Malice away, she might be the first to notice something subtle approaching.

As for what do... probably help out around the ship, in interests of being prepared to get to something interesting (and badgering Xi-hun into setting a course). Sail 1 means she's not incompetent, but Athletics 5 (Balance +2) and sky-high (Strength + Athletics) has to be useful for some things that need doing. Stormy sounds like he's going to be composing poetry in her head, again. He usually finds blue skies inspiring.

"I dunno" responded the captain "That's what I was ask, go out drop this, come back in, come back out, do what you want for a while but come back for that."

Xi-hun goes back from looking at the land to the helm and clears her throat: "Listen up! We're not anywhere I know off nor I think anybody. The Poles aren't there so this mean we aren't where we're supposed to be and since I don't think we travelled to any of the demons either that means we're discovering something. Go make yourselves look sharp, we're going to introduce ourselves if the Agata lets their Majesties find anyone interesting over those cliffs."

Xi-hun then goes to position the ship as to be bellow the edge of the cliff, waiting for their scouts to report what they discovered.

"A feast should do it I think. Leave the demons at home, or, at least, the scarier ones. One of us could pretend to be a sorcerer? Anyways, we need to take over, but stealthy like, right? Don't want to call the attention of any immaculate too early. We go to this down, maybe pretending to be guild operatives? We throw a feast, set up nearby, and offer to have the "sorcerer" heal any sick or wounded. Get them drunk so they don't notice anything funny, get them to eat my food so if they turn on us we have the edge. Malice can tell us who's already potentially sympathetic, we pull them aside for "health" visits. Maybe say we're hear expanding trade on the roads? Our fair captain builds up our base of operations, improves local infrastructure and eventually we have a road paved to hell with a foothold for our evil overlords to make inroads. What do you think? Should we summon a demon who knows the secret guild code? Maybe redecorate the ship? Stonyarse here will probably have to focus mostly on looking tough without doing or saying much. Think you can handle lounging around in the sun doing fuck all for a while?"

Before Malice flies off, Xi-hun tells her: "I'm not against the idea but current supplies are not really suited to that. The second part however you seem to have had the same idea I've been concocting." A smile grows on her face "but do go investigate that basement, we'll provide you with cover for your operation, we'll start going in 2 or 3 hours to give you time to get around."

Xi-hun gives Malice her time, and has Akemi give them a rough layout of the town on a map. Xi-hun's plan is to fly high above the town to avoid as much notice as possible before dropping down with her Jump Harness into the town center, in slow decent mode at first so she herself gets a good view of the layout before switching to fast decent to land in the middle of town. The crew which doesn't need to stay on the ship to operate it and the others would gather people who don't go by themselves to see what is happening at the town center to bring as best as possible everyone in one place. The goal is to avoid people being able to flee. The safeword to start killing opposition is Xi-hun going totemic or any of the other princes.

After the allotted time to Malice, Xi-hun starts moving the ship in a quick ascend and when getting some cloud cover starts to go in the direction of the village. When close to her needed position in the sky, she takes in one hand her Tsunami Blade, Ta' MaghwI' and leaps overboard.

When she gets on the ground, she immediately triggers Urban Hell Renovation to creates a column from which to stand above everyone, not that her height of over 7 feet really requires it. Malice circles around behind the prisoner and drops Hidden Predator Camouflage. She steps over to the cabinet and picks up the knife, pulls it out of its sheath, pockets the necklace, leafs through the books a bit. Then she turns around and speaks, trying every language she knows. "Hey! Why do they have you tied up down here? You're not going to hurt me if I set you free, right?"

Can I find the guy's glasses?

>mechanics
Mostly a Dex + Larceny roll (5 + 5) to steal the necklace without him noticing.

Proposed character. Would be looking for a place to build up a cult, craft some equipment or artifacts, otherwise solidify advantages. Could very easily have gotten stuck here somewhere, especially since I haven't yet fit Transcendent Desert Creature in here. Need an Urge, Kimberian or Cecelynian, and the Stone of Acrid Understanding could be changed to another background if more appropriate.

>Anyways, we need to take over, but stealthy like, right? Don't want to call the attention of any immaculate too early.

Aaaaaaand great, okay, full mask off, no disguises, fantastic. That means anyone who's not down to rebel against the realm is going to automatically look for ways to subvert and resist. Lets see, could try to fake a confrontation, but that'd only go so far, and from what she can tell Xi-hun seems unlikely to play along with... well with much of anything, really. These people are fucked either way, no saving them from the realm now which means instead we need to find a way to disappear when the hammer comes down. A fleet of ships? Probably too hard to hide...

While contemplating just how exactly they're going to hide their base of operations from the watchful eye of sycophants and fools, Akemi brings the ship down. Of course, her dad never had her do exercises on demonic hellships before, but honestly there's a lot of overlap. Two miles outside of town, around a bend in the canyon walls so the ship isn't immediately visible through the tall grass. She has the crew make camp here, offloading goods and setting up tents. Using rod of verdant minerals to prep some trade goods- unsurprisingly, there was plenty of brass and copper she could take samples of to propagate. She can spend 8 personal motes an hour then meditate to recover, although for Akemi it looks more like napping. In a day she could reasonably triple the starting volume of material and still have 15 hours (three "shifts") to spare. None of it is worked, so they'd mostly be trading it for the value of the raw materials, but some of it could probably have value for sculpture if you found the right market.

"Good no question." Xi-hun bends down while looking at various people who seemed to have spoken in Old Realm. "Now it seems some of you might be aware of some prediction I may not be aware off right this moment. Would anyone of you be willing to correct this mishap? Also the usual landscape aren't present so if you would kindly point out a few, that would be extra useful."
