The restaurant bustled as the night grew colder, many families eating and a few eating alone, enjoying themselves, and here you are, sitting and waiting at a table for two, waiting to meet your monster date.

Well, "monster" is technically what she's classed as after The Merge, all non-humans who appeared were classed as such, though she was just a robot according to her profile.

For a little backstory, about 20 years ago, an event known as "The Merge" suddenly occurred all over the planet, combining two universes into one in an instant, one of humans, and one of "monsters."

These monsters were regular folk, no different to humans in terms of society, but that didn't stop conflict immediately starting between the two societies due to their vast physical differences and diversity. Eventually though, the two sides began to understand each other, and peace was established as life vaguely returned back to normal.

In recent years, a new app released, a dating app for Humans to meet and date Monsters and vice versa, being how you found Nehm in the first place.

Tonight is your first date, but before we start this story, you must first specify..

You eventually went to live in the wilderness and underwent the Trial of the Grasses, which consists of subsisting on nothing but grass in lieu of buying food. That's why you are so skinny.

Learning that a dragon burning your local grocery store sucks, you now make a living monster-hunting for money for a society that rejects you...because you are into robots and that's wack.

Your nemesis is Eric of Merribone, the elf that turned pale after seeing the humans and who has a merribone to pick with you.

Time ticked on as you waited for your date, a growing feeling in your chest that she might have stood you up. A few minutes pass, five, ten, fifteen.. Your hopes begin to die as you sigh

You're about to prepare to leave until you hear a familiar voice, causing you to pause to listen. Not long after, a few seconds at most, a familiar face appears in front of you at the other side of the table, a nervous smile on her face

"S-Sorry I'm late! Traffic's really bad around this part of the city, I-I'm not quite used to it"

You smile at her, waving off and accepting her apology. You introduce yourself, but she chuckles

"W-Well, I'm glad I have the right table, then! I'm Nehm, but you probably know that haha"

She smiles at you, giving you a little wave as she speaks

"How are you? I hope you're not too cold, or hot, I can't quite tell due to.. Well.." she gestures to herself, chuckling, "Metal"

Say it's overcooled, but this place serves extra-hot food so it should even out.

Tell her it's fine, you can tell if a human is too cold if they're shivering, which is idling their motor functions to take advantage of waste heat. If too hot, evaporative cooling systems kick in. Then uh... ask her to tell you a little about herself?

You tell her that its a little cold, but its alright since you've brought your own handmade jacket!

You sit straight, almost puffing out your chest as you show off your jacket, Nehm responds positively

"Wow! You made that yourself? That's awesome!"

As you sit straighter, Nehm seems to slightly sink in her seat, her smile growing ever so slightly, and you could swear you could see a faint blush on her cheeks

You tell her your jacket does wonders keeping you warm, but as a backup plan you could always order some spicy food, causing Nehm to giggle a little

ask a little about her, what do cute robots do for a living? does she need to go to college or does she learn through some other means? what kind of hobbies does she have? stuff like that

What's the learning curve for synthetics? Do your designers pre-program you with oodles of firmware, or do you have to go through the gamut of slow-starting machine learning, just like every other human?

"I'm currently unemployed, but I do volunteer work at Xeno Labs! I take care of the creations and help them learn, I'm somewhat of a comfort bot over there! I did go to college, due to my memory loss before arriving in this world, I had to start from scratch.. My mind and body doesn't allow any connections like that, so I had to learn the old fashion way!"

She thinks for a second before answering the last question

"I don't have any interesting hobbies... I like walking? Seeing the sights is very nice, exploring the world... It's exciting! like.. an adventure!" She smiles

"I'm unique as in there's only one of me, but I do have a family! A sister named Chip and a brother named Hisker! We all came from a program, a game I think! But we lost all our memories due to some corruption of our code, we don't remember eachother, but we came from the same program, so that makes us family!"

Mom, dad, sibling, a smattering of aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins, a pet dog, a stray cat who might as well be a pet and a potted plant that's lived long enough for there to be an attachment.

Edward was raised by Aunt Becky since his early teens, as his parents do medical stuff overseas. He hasn't seen them in a while since The Merge made their jobs very busy, but they stay in touch electronically.

Dad travels a lot for business, mom is a mechanic. Of your siblings, your sister works in the shop and your brother moved away for college and found a job elsewhere.
