Guys I was hoping for some help. InDev mode just added paintings you can stick on walls and while that's great and all, they're pretty bland.
So I was hoping you all could help me out here and using this template of different-sized squares (only the brightened ones!) maybe you could design some decorations of your own.

These can be any decorations you'd stick on a wall. They don't have to be paintings! You can also use transparent pixels if you want to make anything to stick on a wall that's not a perfect square.

So help me come up with some decorative items of various sizes by drawing them into this template. Anything's welcome, banners, murals, paintings, anything you'd stick on a wall to dress it up (in a sort of fantasy/medieval-fantasy level setting).

I use paint.net and zoom in 1600% on about 30x30 pixels to get a start. Tweaking is required in-game especially if there isn't sharp contrast. I also use lines of different colour vertically every other line so I can tell easily how many pixels I need.

Texture pack for Minecraft InDev mode, complete overhaul.

Virtually nothing is left unchanged. Mobs look different, armor sets are all distinct rather than just being color-swaps of each other, numerous tiles look better (ESPECIALLY cobblestone which used to be butt-ugly), and so on. Also comes included with a pack of new paintings for underground signs and general castle-esque decoration.

Extract, then dump all the files into your minecraft.jar*, replacing files. That's it, you're done. Just run it and the menu itself should look different if you did it right.


*Minecraft.jar can be opened with WinRAR and found with a file search, usually C:\Users\[SUBJECT NAME HERE]\AppData\Local\Temp\www.minecraft.net . Alternately you can use the standalone client here: http://www.crappycomic.com/stuff/Minecraft_indev.zip
And the associated minecraft.jar can be easily found in the "lib" subdirectory.

Also included is a revamp for all weapons and tools, making them look more distinct by material, rather than simple color-swaps. Weapons in particular have been changed the most, shovels now point INTO the earth so it doesn't look like you're whacking the ground with the side of your shovel, and gold tools look appropriately decorative and ornate but not very practical.

These aren't just for the inventory icons. The weapons and tools will actually show up differently in your hands as well.

Multiplayer is right around the corner. We will have it in less than 48 hours.

Given that we're inevitably going to have a /quest/ server, I thought it would be neat if we had some sort of theme going on, and since someone mentioned Kobold Camp I thought it would be neat if we all fired up variations on a few template skins (most of which Bite made rather expertly).

This isn't for any RP purposes -- it's not like I'm expecting people to walk around pretending to be kobolds or anything -- I just thought the visual motif would be cute.

We could get a few base templates for things like cutebolds, blockheads, ogres, goblins, gnolls, etc., and then just extrapolate off those bases to make individuals. Clothing, details, etc. would be altered so everyone would stand out. Heck, I'd be glad to do the alterations for you if you have a look or request you'd like to see.


Typing this out I guess it kind of sounds like a lame idea but I just think seeing a half-dozen kobolds scrabbling around trying to get a little wood fort up before nightfall would be adorable <:3c

Variations could be anything from coloration/markings/tint and clothing to expression, defining features, even more minor things like ears or what have you.

The only thing I'd probably see as any trouble is keeping it in the same style/level of detail as the original skins. But with a little cooperation we could maybe make a whole pool of distinct individuals to pick through, if that works better. Maybe we should just make a library of different residents, at least as a sample.

That's largely because the lack of mobs, storage, and even smelting is provoking people to just cheat in items, giving themselves massive stacks of iron blocks, diamond tools, and TNT, eliminating the concept of scarcity.

Once server-side inventory (at the very least) is finally introduced I think we'll see a more consistent format. It will be nice to have people contribute to a large central storage, like a stockhouse. Every time you come back the chests can be more full, and you'll never have to cheat (or ask DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY LOGS).

Pretty much the server now is pretty buggy. It barely runs, has a shitton of bugs and most of the features are turned off. I tried playing it then gave up because nothing seemed to work right.

* Smelting is not working
* TNT physics are broken
* Buckets behave strangely
* Massive desyncs when digging
* Signs are client side
* No mobs or mob spawners

And that's only a fracture of 'bad things' right now. Sure it runs, but it feels like some unfinished PreAlpha

Expert mode: You can merge the screenshot and the *.zip file, and post that to the imageboard. Then people can save the picture to their ~/.minecraft/texturepacks/ instead of remembering how to make the texturepack *.zip files each time.

tips
Eat as often as you can. You can't waste food points by eating more than you are hungry. They count as overfilling the food bar and still get used.
Never use a near broken pick on a good material. When the pick or any other tool breaks that last use counts as using your hand. This will destroy coal/iron/gold/diamond blocks and give you nothing.

Also, always carry an extra pick and sword. High-level picks (gold, diamond and maybe iron) are best saved for either late-game blocks (stuff like diamond and obsidian) or for when you absolutely need the extra digging speed (when you're starving, injured, on fire, etc). For everything else a stone pick will work just fine.

I'm not sure how that constitutes "seven's greed" in any way, shape or form. I produced a factory to generate EMC for public use, as in for everyone on the server, then forgot about it and left it running for several weeks. Seven was nice enough to produce solar panels for everyone (again, that means the whole server) to use from that EMC.
Then someone took all those solar panels and converted them into diamond blocks so they could claim seven was greedy? I'm really just confused by this. At worst, he's a middleman for MY greed.
You know, the kind of greed that makes me want to give everyone free shit. My bad, guys.

I'm not so sure of that. I saw this on the FTB server as well, and checking my F3 info while in it didn't show anything like "bog" as the biome. And looking at my mini-map it also didn't blend with the surrounding biomes, instead just stopping at the edge of a chunk.

Perhaps Cirr could go back and double-check with F3 what biome that is.

Except it's not just in the marsh biome. The marsh biome is that bit where the water is shallow. All that "noise" visible on the map is actually columns of dirt that extend from default ocean surface level, all the way down to the seabed. I didn't dig down to check if they extended all the way down (and possibly through) the bedrock. Anyway, that's definitely not from it being a marsh biome.
