So, how did everyone like the first episodes of the season? Personally, I thought it was pretty good, possibly the best yet. The episode's plot was linked nicely to past events, some of the backstory was fleshed out, we got some nice Discord moments, and the fight scenes were good too. We even got what appears to be the beginning of a new story arc. All in all, it was a good episode which left me with high hopes for the future.

I stopped watching season 3 altogether because it was shit, but the first 3 episodes of season 4 have actually been decent. It feels more like first gen. I enjoy it.

So, uh.

When did they let the e621 fanartists start doing the storyboarding?

I miss the good old days when you could have a tentacle monster without everybody immediately commenting how this is just like one of their Japanese hentais.

I dispute the existence of such a time.

Anyway, it was a far less dreadful season start than 1 or 2, despite the second half being horribly mis-paced/rushed to hell ("go away!" "ok...no wait I won't" "good we needed you") and them pulling the usual Twilight-saves-the-day.

Where did the term "Plunder Seed" come from? Discord called them his "Plunder Seeds". Was that to imply that they weren't something he randomly came up with? It was an oddly specific part of his "chaos" act spilling all those omnious black seeds. I think he got them from somewhere, and just made it look like he created them out of chaos. All the rest of the stuff he created vanished when the elements gave him the smack down, but not those seeds. But where would things like that be found?

It's strange to think about. He planted the Plunder Vines so they could sap the magic out of the tree of Harmony and entrap Celestia and Luna. That means he knew about the tree of Harmony before the sisters used the elements on him. That means he knew about the elements, and he knew that they could defeat him.

That means he was only pretending to be surprised.

Discord conquered all of Equestria as a mere distraction just so nobody would notice the seeds he was planting. Where did he get those things?

...and he really seemed eager to trick Twilight into doing the one thing that would defeat them. Maybe he didn't want the seeds to win at all, just wanted the box to appear?

You mean before 1814 ?
Look up Hokusai's "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife."

Okay, I think we've all seen the third episode by now. That was... honestly, not too great. They set up a few gags early in the episode, and then they just sort of went with them. Still kind of fun to watch, though. On the plus side, it added a new status quo, and introduced more plot hooks, so the season continues to be promising. Plus, we got some nice magic from Twilight.

Um, a whole episode on R.D. wish fulfilment? Lolwut.

Expected a second twist, didn't get one.

Third episode was Fantastic, fourth was garbage.

Rainbow Dash episodes are always terrible because they all always come down to RAINBOW DASH IS THE MOST AWESOMEST FOREVER and it's boring.

Well, this series seems to be on course for countering probably the least-awful premier so far with the most dreadful actual episodes.

For a show that's leant so heavily on rounded, character-driven humour they sure are trying to hammer those characters out flat. They're making Flutters in Dragonshy look complex and multi-faceted.

Yeah episode four was goddamn terrible.

Isn't five supposed to be the Scootaloo episode? That could be fun.

Or it could be worse.

What do you think? Predictions? Will Scoots fly by the end of the episode? Will it be a shitty pile of crap or interesting world/character building?

Better than last episode, despite:

• Plot was formulaic, predictable and overall unsurprising.
• Character growth was only to re-establish normal maturity levels.
• Implications that the CMC might forever be static characters.

Rainbow Dash is better suited to the supporting role. Lead characters aren't allowed to hold the Sanity Ball.

>When characters on the same show take turns being the Only Sane Man or Straight Man, but only one of them is sane at a time, that character is holding the Sanity Ball.

I accidentally watched the second half of the episode before the first, and really the first half of the episode is entirely pointless. Everything in the episode is reestablished in the first minute of part 2, just without 9 minutes of exposition and a forgettable song that gets a reprise anyway.

It seems like the current staff would be better suited to making 11 minute episodes like in regular show and adventure time, a lot of the problems are probably coming from them trying to pad everything out to 20 minutes and not really having enough ideas to fill it.

>Rainbow dash is better as supporting role
I AGREE.

She's a fun character, she's got a few decent episodes and actually does seem to be maturing somewhat as a character as the show goes on, but she's too... zany, I guess, to hold the lead. Of course without her it's just a CMC exclusive episode which never bodes well.

Also I'm not looking forward to tomorrow's at all. Alternate universe superhero episode? Really? Is Equestria out of stories already?

I thought the Daring Do episode was fun. The premise was unexpected, but interesting; it's nice to see that there are big, important adventures going on in Equestria that don't directly involve the main characters. It had plenty of good action scenes, and it showed Rainbow Dash dealing with an emotional issue that she hadn't encountered before. The episode's moral was good, too.

Power Ponies was fun.

I wouldn't say it was terribly interesting, but it was fun in an alternate universe shenanigans sort of way.

Plus, you know, spike is best pony

That fans can do awesome things, and shouldn't let their glorification of the creators get in the way of their own self-respect. It's a nonstandard and very refreshing take on the idea.

You've still missed the part that the entire episode would not be possible without blatant invasion of someone's privacy and this is a bad thing to teach.

Not to overstate it, but this episode sucked a dick and anyone who liked it also sucks a dick.

Actually that's overstating it. But it was bland and unconnected to fucking anything, no character development anywhere, Discord isn't a villain anymore he's just a less interesting Gilda, and Pinkie just vapidly follows balloons she sees.

Come on, Ponk, I know your cutie mark is balloons but really.

Song was fun I guess, but discord isn't dangerous anymore and none of the horses even treat him that way. They react like he's just some dude that likes to fart in public places. He's annoying but not really a problem.

All the other episodes with him and they're scared of his potential to ruin Equestria, and here they're all just like "UGH THIS GUY" and it's boring as fuck.

Also Cadance walks funny, stop lifting your feet so high, weirdo.

What can they do if he goes dangerous anyways? No elements, so long as they treat him okayish he won't go nuts, as shown by fluttershy.

I mean if they piss him off they can't really do shit. He's mostly just trolling because he knows he can get away with it, he doesn't do it with pinkie cause she'd like it, and he doesn't want to hurt fluttershy so he waits till she's gone.

This episode was a lot of fun, with tons of unique art assets and a number of good songs.

Plus, I mean, let's face it. Pinkie Pie is best pony.
