Done.

Sidebars. Sidebars, everywhere.

One day I thought that desktop shortcuts suck. There's really no way to make them look pretty on a simplistic background.

... I really should find time to backup all my shit, repartition drives and install Win7 already.

Man, so cluttered. Why haven't you hidden the Recycle Bin yet?

The Desktop is one of the most pervasive yet unhelpful metaphors added to the WIMP model. It's nothing like a real desk because it only stores representations of documents which act as launchers---the actual desk-like behaviour of having multiple documents arranged for working on being already handled by windows---and "under everything else" is pretty much the worst place to put launchers.

I think it requires Vista at minimum, though, because it builds on some capability that first came around then. So you will be hugely in luck when you do get around to switching to Win7

Though I kind of wonder

Hurr.

I put this on my desktop and haven't changed it since, more out of laziness than anything else.

That big empty monitor on the right is usually covered in six to twelve various windows, so I don't put any icons there, nor do I really care what's on the background.

>Yo if you like bars, you might be interested in this:
Thanks for the heads up, though I won't resort to extra software if I can do without.
I can be very anal-retentive about resources at times. It's the reason I "downgraded" from Vista to XP. Vista was pre-installed on my laptop and it ate 800+ MB of RAM idling.

>How do you guys have so much shit worth keeping that backing it up is a big deal?
It's not that there's a lot to back up. I could probably backup, format, install Win7, reinstall of software and move the data back within a day. Now try to remember, when was the last time you had a full day at your leisure and you didn't need any files from your system?

Oh, I can be the same. It tends to feel pretty pointless these days though, because my resource monitor never indicates that I'm using more than like, 70% resources, no matter what I'm doing.

>Now try to remember, when was the last time you had a full day at your leisure and you didn't need any files from your system?
Yesterday. But I have Fridays mostly off. Today would be work fine too.

I thought it was pretty decent, but it doesn't replace the taskbar so you'll have both the dock and the taskbar up at once if you don't hide the taskbar.

I just got my computer cleaned and upgraded and now I'm super-paranoid of putting ANYTHING on there which doesn't ABSOLUTELY NEED TO in order to function, hence everything goes into that storage device.
