After a greater hiatus of Janitorial vengeance on /tg/, I come asking tgchan of their opinion on roleplaying threads.

Roleplaying threads, as such that you create your own persona, often with an avatar attached, and then you interract with the others within a certain thread.

They've been rather popular on /tg/ for the past few weeks, rarely hitting less than 700 posts before it dies of old age.

However, today, a Janitor brushed away ever attempt at it, and /tg/ is in a hiatus on wether it is related or not. What say you, tgchan?

I think they're ok. I don't really see how it's that /tg/ related, (aside from roleplaying and the races I guess?) though.

i would say that roleplaying is related, same way D&D is related. you have a character and play as it.

It always sort of annoyed me, gotta say.
Everyone's always trying to make the thread about them and steering it in different directions.

I thought avatarfagging was just a way to troll people, especially the "Anonymous is Legion" dumbasses who think of any kind of identification as evil.

in it's core, freeform roleplay is fine, if everyone is on board, this is why /tg/ is not conductive to roleplay.

it is simply a bad idea to roleplay on a chan, as trolls, conservative mods, and general dickbutts will make it impossible.

just use forums devoted to the thing, that way you'll never get trolled, and no one can bitch about you roleplaying on /tg/

It's cool. Just as long as it stays in dedicated threads, and doesn't spill elsewhere.

I like all your avatars, Gnoll.

Don't pay attention to it myself but I got no qualms about it sticking to its own thread. When it starts taking over other threads it becomes annoying.

I personally much prefer the "lesser roleplay threads".

Ya know, where someone says something like "Those damn rebels bitch about their rights all the time, but what about the rights of my brother! He died on the Deathstar, fuck the rebels!" and it's established that we are roleplaying as people in the star wars universe... roleplaying as people in the star wars universe who are bitching at eachother via their version of 4chan, that is. Always good fun.

The advantage of true anonymity is that, as much as the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory takes effect, at least you don't get bitchy vendetta drama flaring up. It's hard to hold a grudge and chase people from thread to thread when you don't know who you're holding it against. You get less of the flocking-to-the-defence-of-the-board-veterans groupthink culture, too.

People trying to hold persistent identity on 4chan are basically getting a whole webforum's load of hate-stalkers focused upon their much smaller number. And since that much rage can derail threads quite nicely, it doesn't make their appearance exactly endearing to anyone who actually cared more about the original topic than the appearance of someone self-important enough to want to stand out in the crowd.

So is this gonna be one of those RP threads?

Avatarfagging is stupid.

Threads specifically about it sound like the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

Sounds like a bunch of faggotry that would be better done elsewhere. Although a thread directing people to the roleplay place would be /tg/ related.

Personally, I don't mind it one bit as long as it doesn't derail a decent thread. I can't really get pissed off at avatarfags simply because you get however many anons who hate it and turn the threads into a shitstorm.
