So there is an awesome game that will be out sometime in the nearish future.

http://www.terraria.org/
http://www.youtube.com/user/demilogic

It's a 2d thingmajigger, seems to be mostly about exploring, with combat and minecraft-style digging and building also being major themes. Character power is based on your wealth and equipment, there aren't any stats.

1.05 is out. They nerfed the Star Cannon and the Rocket Boots to the point of uselessness, and to compensate all we got was an excessively complex alchemy system. Oh, and there's even more super-hard enemies, and you're basically screwed if you spawn near a desert because the enemies are so high-level.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

The new Star Cannon is total shit compared to, say, Starfury. Sunfury is still awesome. Muramasa was too broken for even me, so I don't really mind. Rocket Boots are useless, they're incredibly hard to get but offer no practical advantage over Cloud in a Bottle.

So blue~

SO. INFORMATION. Everything from this point on will be in spoiler.

>New NPCS

Build three new rooms ahead of time, assuming you've got everyone. Then, in your new world, break a few shadow orbs to get the gobby invasion going.

Once it's over, head to the dungeon. The new NPCs will be waiting in there, untie them with right click. (Check housing when you free them, they should show up.)

It's advisable to magic mirror as soon as you do so, then set their new room. This will save them from getting mauled in the dungeon.

>HARDMODE

Got the new NPCs? Freed up accessory space with the Tinkerer Station? Reforged your weapons and spells? Go down to the Underworld. Find a Voodoo Demon and murder the SHIT out of it. Once you have the doll, go over to a pool of lava.

WARNING: THE WALL OF FLESH WILL KICK YOUR ASS.

Seriously, though, the WoF will force you to run away through the underworld, so you might want to prep with walkways. Furthermore, it will always spawn rushing at your face, as far as I know. So plan accordingly.

If it kicks your ass (And it will) you will have to wait for two things: The return of the guide and the WoF to finish it's looooong trip across the underworld. Then you have to find a new doll and start over.

>Traps
There's three wiring setups that are randomly generated.

One is a boulder trap. these drop 2x2 stones on you that probably are instagib. Another is a dart trap, which launches a poisoned wooden arrow. finally, only present in the dungeon, is a light switch.

You can find these in a number of ways. Look for pressure plates on the ground. Look for boulders in the ceiling. Look for dart launchers in the walls. STAY AWARE.

Moar info~

The underground for the Hallow is not quite as dangerous as the underground for the corruption. Hallow seems to prefer less projectiles than the corruption does, and it doesn't have FUCKING WRAITHS. When Pearlstone is in the Underground, it can spawn Crystal growths. You can hammer these and they are important in many hardmode recipes.

In the Corrupt underground, there's Clingers that drop Cursed Flames, which is the opposite to Crystals.

All the horror stories about Hallowed and Corruption spreading like wildfire on the Terraria Online forums turned out to be nothing. I built a wall of Iridescent bricks around my base so nothing too close to me would get changed to either side... I ended up planting Hallowed seeds next to my base because it was so slow and I needed light souls.

Mage setup isn't utterly horrible anymore either, a lot still don't like it (not as high bonuses on gear as range or melee) but I'm tearing through everything with my masterful Crystal Storm and Demon Sctyhe.

Just need to farm potion stuff now for buffs and I'm ready to attempt soloing the hardmode bosses.

im pretty sure wraiths spawn (and wyverns at higher altitudes) no matter what and they are the main component of not being able to get a breather ever on hardmode. hallowed and corruption can spread -past- but not into man-made barriers and -all- odd bricks. For true protection you need a gap of four spaces, but I stopped caring if corruption and hallow take over. Corruption has stupid flying dudes called corruptors who spit projectiles that convert any valid tiles to corruption, so it spreads MUCH more readily than hollow and can 'compromise' 'quarantined' areas unless you have make REALLY elaborate accommodations.

Believe the claims of ranged overpoweredness, but with some salt. Ranged IS overpowered, but it is -not- game breaking as everyone seems to exaggerate it is, much less so by a single (and often intermittent / situational from my experience !) factor like crystal bullets. I stand by another ranged enthusiast who prefers Hallowed Repeater + Cursed Arrows + Archery Potion, as it seems to get fights done sooner despite not seeming like it should at a glance of the statistics.

Mage setup is actually -very- versatile though it is a larger potion-sink and requires more attention / finesse than alternatives. The tierings people give the magic weapons seems to be based on both dps AND mana consumption, when it should just be dps. End game, youre not going to give a shit about your mana consumption if you have a mana-flower to automatically manage mana recovery for you; you can go EVEN MORE offensive if you manually manage your mana recovery and swap the mana flower and other +mana / -mana cost things with other modifiers. Mana recovery doesn't have (many) a cooldown and therefore doesn't have the mind-raking micromanagement of regular buffs / healing which usually eats away at my efficiency using other loadouts.

I'm pretty sick of the weaknesses that comes with 'boss-killer' loadouts. Most regular enemies (yes even wyverns) are not that difficult to deal with when 1) it does not consume ammo, mana or inventory space beyond one square (all melee options), 2) is just high enough in damage but no more to comfortably deal with skeleton archers and armored skeletons, allowing all other accessories and reforges to be geared for exploration.

wow this was long.

I'm surprised people plan stuff this hard.

I kind of just go with the flow and keep items around for any situation
1.pickaxe
2.Vilethorn
3...water bullet was it?
4.Death scythe
5.Health/MP mega potions (max stacks, have about 60-90 on me at any given time, though i have never really needed to use more than one stack)
6. molten hamaxe
7,8,9 used to be magic mirror(or starfury, just remembered I got that), orb of light and grapple, but since orb got shittier and I found out that there is a hotkey for grapple, those are just anything I want
0 is Masamune

I can pretty much deal with anything. Maybe I'm just good at dodging. ._.

Lol, bunny farming souls. I do it the hard way, but I also like to run around and explore while I kill.

Wyverns are annoying as hell, but they spawn so high up that as long as you time your jump right they'll never hit you at all.

As for the corruptor's spitting crap everywhere, I never see them on the surface for some reason. Even in corrupted areas, I only see them in underground corruption.

Actually, Terraria isn't like that at all. The entire purpose of the Guide is so that you don't have to waste time experimenting.

Indeed. Really, before the new guide and discovering the wiki, I spent way too much time on not much. A lot of the recipes are not intuitive and you would have to have a bunch of things just on you to randomly find it in the crafting list.

A (somewhat exploity) idea I had:
Cross necklace + high armor + floor of hellstone = 1 damage/second making you count as 'damaged', protecting you from things such as boss attacks
Results: So far I have not tested it against a boss, but in tests against hardmode monsters, there is a partial but notable success rate at preventing monster damage. Whether this method actually helps in boss fights depends on how often you are hit by the boss, as the constant one damage/second prevents regeneration and wears at your health.

>>
No. 20105 ID: 049dfa

It protects you from all attacks that aren't colliding with a boss's actual body (if you are touching the monster's body when it comes time for damage to tick, that takes priority over the hellstone). So it's a lot more effective against the twins and destroyer than skeletron prime, but it helps against all of them.
>>
No. 20106 ID: 2f7168

>>20103
i do this, and the amount of damage colliding with a boss is obscene in all circumstances so the priority is to end the fight as soon as possible which armor accessories just delay. what's funny is spazmatism's cursed flamethrower attack takes no priority at all over the fire-block damage. for skeletron, the fire-block exploit allows targeting the saw a legitimate strategy. once it's gone you can relax infinitely

equip star cloak for a lol. it's not effective on bosses but if it's reforged, whatever
