Personally, I feel we need more links to quests. It's a bit of a pain going through the archive page by page looking for specific quests. --173.201.16.248 02:27, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

That's sort of the reasoning behind the entire category system. Did you see the categorized quest index? If not, what can we do to encourage people to notice the category thing? Manual pages require so much overhead, they're kinda comparatively maddening due to their lack of dynamic changing. -- Adept 03:01, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

I meant something like a link to the first chapter or something in the little blurb about it. There are links for some, but a good deal do not have links. This can make it difficult to find the first part of a quest in the archive, especially when it does not start by showing the quest name, or if you haven't seen the artist yet.--173.201.16.248 13:57, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
What is the stand on spoilers here? Should spoilerish things be tagged as such or should one consider everything a spoiler as soon as one opens a quest's page?
Reaver is best known for being the author of Mudy Quest, a quest that went on for 30-some chapters, and was well known for its update speed and art quality. Mudy Quest never reached a conclusion, and was left hanging, presumed to be dead despite a few revival attempts. After Mudy Quest, Reaver began working on a series of short quests with various permutations of a romantic theme; these quests are listed under the Romanticar Series article.

Due to conflicts between Reaver and other members of tgchan, Reaver has been on and off in the community.
Reaver is a close friend/roommate of Weaver. It is only a matter of time before they become a couple and make millions of babbies to reclaim the earth from the heretics, oh man <3

Journey Quest (often referred to simply as Journey or JQ) was an epic quest by Lucid in a world of his own design. Journey's one of the better known quests due to a combination of drawing quality, gripping narrative, and the existence of a controversial antagonist that has tgchan split between two opposing forces of Fan Dumb.

On December 15, 2009, Journey Quest completed its 13th and final chapter.

But fret not, a comic is in the works!

More information on Lucid's world can be found here (not really).
Demesi of Angoldas
A young Nedynvor lad, who on his first solo trip away from his home island, awakes to find himself mysteriously at the bottom of a pit inside a cave. Completely out of his element, and not knowing anything about how the world outside his island works, he sets about exploring the tunnels, looking for a way home. Upon finding the cave to have been somehow sealed, he is left with no recourse but to venture further into the depths of the cave. A Kren merchant set up in the cave system informs him of a nearby Lohrke settlement. Demesi sets out to seek their aid to get himself back home.

Tav Unt'bel
Tav Unt'bel is a volunteer soldier in the city militia of the Lohrke city located in the cave system Demesi finds himself in. He has been waging a one man guerrilla war against an invading force in an attempt to buy time for the other inhabitants of the city to have made their escape through the the Evacuation Tunnel. He was originally the loader of a two man weapon team wielding a Shock Lance, however, his partner has since passed away in the line of duty. Tav has taken up their Shock Lance himself and now runs it as a one man army fighting against the invading Engsami forces.

Aggeia Snoow
Aggeia is a Jungle Lazuhrek Demesi encounters in a neighboring dungeon cell. She assists Tav and Demesi in escaping from the Engsami stronghold. She has been sent there by her superiors, the Hat'kal, for a mission, but is reluctant to carry it out, or inform her new comrades of what exactly it is. She possesses a silver tongue and is quite flexible and able to squeeze through many locations one would not expect her body to fit through. She loves the taste of fruit.

Binky
Binky is a Shocker Crab, a creature indigenous to the caves Demesi wakes up in, purchased from the Kren merchant via trade. Originally intended to simply be a tool used for some puzzles in the quest, the author found it difficult to actually come up with puzzles, and as such, created short "Crab quest" style chapters where the participants took control of this diminutive, shocking hero. Binky does not possess much brain meats, being a simple crab, but can launch bolts of electricity a short distance from his claws, and find his way into small locations.

Other Chracters
General Kyaos & Ga'nneda

General Kyaos is a winged type Engsami, and the leader in command of the invasion force raiding the Lohrke city. She rides on the back of her partner Ga'nneda, using his bulk as both a defensive tank, and powerful weapon. The two make a formidable team. Ga'nneda, usually fairly slow to react to things, being a large turtle type Leviathan Engsami, but with Kyaos directing him and providing an extra pair of eyes, he's a true monster, and his drive to protect Kyaos makes him almost unstoppable. Perhaps the link between the two is more than just a simple work relationship?

Admiral Denjold

The Admiral is the leader of the Denjold clan of Engsami. A ruthless band of land pirates who primarily deal in the slave trade. Kyaos is one of his top generals. He's more of a command from the rear leader, not due to lack of ability, or courage, more of "what are subordinates for?" mentality. Alternate names he is known by are "Scourge of the Sands," "The Great Dragon of the Desert," and others. He has lead his pirate clan to become the most feared Engsami in the desert, so much so, even the mighty Hat'kal empire fears the name "Denjold."

Vote: Player Killing
Due to the MUD likely being rather small, I will vote for ALWAYS simply because if it gets out of hand it will generally be easy to solve the dispute. --Ashsflames 23:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

ALWAYS-5, levels provide large stat boosts, this way you couldn't have people one-hit-killing eachother. -Rosque

ALWAYS-5, if death is relatively painless, NEVER if permadeath :V --Driblis 00:47, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

ALWAYS-5 for players with lvl > x (some number) ("non-newbies"), and OPTIONAL-5 for players with lvl < x (the same number) ("newbies") --Zulfiqar 14:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Vote: Player Death and Penalties
I'd like to see how the ASTRAL idea works, it would promote teamwork and make the inevitable healer-player(s) a valuable friend to have. If we can though, I'd like to see a combination of ASTRAL and EXPERIENCE, but EXPERIENCE needs to be changed. From playing TGMUD, losing 100 exp per level is severely detrimental at any level, and I propose that it be lowered to 50 (or perhaps 25 if we want to be nicer) through use of the expression @x1*50 (or @x1*25). My vote goes to ASTRAL, @x1*50/@x1*25. --Ashsflames 23:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

1. That way bodies will be left to resurrect if need be, and practically no experience loss to worry about, especially because dying once often leads to dying multiple times in a row. If possible, proposed item binding with non-rare materials lootable. -Rosque

ASTRAL_RES because it's annoying to have to wait until a cleric is on before you can come back and play :V --Driblis 00:51, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

RECALL for "newbies" (see my vote on Player Killing), ASTRAL for non-"newbies". But: a non-"newbie" can either be resurrected by another player (priest) with no penalties, or by an NPC resurrector with EXPERIENCE penalties. --Zulfiqar 14:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Vote: Punishment for Fleeing Battle
NO PENALTY, hands-down. Fleeing is a tactical maneuver, we should never be punished for it. --Ashsflames 23:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

NO PENALTY. -Rosque

NO PENALTY. I don't think there's going to be any disagreement on this one. --Durandal 00:46, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

NO PENALTY. I suck and run away constantly and I'd rather not lose things for it. --Driblis 00:51, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

NO PENALTY. Maybe, a small alignment penalty, if you flee from an opposite alignment mob? Just a random idea, really, but it's kinda realistic imho - you don't become less experienced from being a coward, but that can be judged from a moral point. Or is this just not possible in CoffeeMUD? --Zulfiqar 14:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
A few general questions
* The setting. Is the MUD based on the Unified Setting, or the Dwarf Fortress setting, or maybe a mish-mash setting from different dungeon/fantasy-based quests?
* The theme. The way you described it, sounds pretty fun! I like mischief :) When there will be more players, maybe we should think about adding more villages. Maybe race-based, with some fantasy racism present. That way different villages may compete with each other, and make mischief towards each other. Also, would there be pHouses and pShops? Would there be an option of, e.g., setting a pShop near a route often used by adventurers, or for an adventurer to set a pHouse near a promising dungeon part?
* Map. As my 2 cents: I think there should be many ways to go in the dungeon, and many routes between many various places. What I mean is, not 2-3 linear rows of increasingly different areas, but at least 7-8 or more ways to go, with some ways leading to large areas, some to lairs, some to more crossroads, some to small caves, some to obstacles like a narrow tunnel or a water-filled cave, some even to dead ends. You know, like in a real (albeit embellished) dungeon. So, a goblin village denizen can choose: to go fight gnolls in their den, to hunt lizards in a mushroom forest or on a clearing in a large cave, to explore a tunnel leading to more faraway areas, to investigate a labyrinth of several seldom-used tunnels with many mysterious exits, to mine gems or metal in a nearby mine-cave, to try to find a way across a large pit or crevasse, or to brave a winding underwater tunnel to see what's beyond. Actually, if Weaver's reading it, think your own campaign that you DM'ed on /tg/ before creating RQ. Actually, it was the read that made me think of cave exploring as no less exciting than overworld exploring :)
* Places. Would there probably be places from other quests available? I would like to wander around Metal Glen, or to meet a BiteQuest wizard, or to fight Rastin's cronies. Maybe make these worlds as bonuses of sorts, accessible by portals hidden in remote caves that need much exploring to get to? Would be awesome :) UPD: Actually, some settings may even be integrated into the dungeon world: e.g., the Cjopazean subterranean lair (which was discovered under Metal Glen) may be actually accessible from the dungeon - however, it should be very remote, very hidden, and very very high-level and dangerous. There, a player group brave (or stupid) enough to enter it, may fight the Dummy, the Watercooler, mutated anthropomorphical animals, and other cjopazean abominations ^_^
** That was how TGMUD was planned, and it turned out to work rather awfully. We've decided to avoid any direct copy/pasting of quest material into this MUD, and instead opt for references or material such as races and items. --Ashsflames 05:47, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
* Races. First of all, I suggest that there should be no humans at all. It's a setting about monsters, and frankly, I personally never play as a human. I'm already one IRL, it's just not as interesting :) As for other races, I suggest (as a final goal) adding most races from dungeon-based quests. E.g., nedynvor, lohrke, etc. A slime (from SlimeQuest) would probably be too difficult to implement. Also, concerning voltos. I personally would play as a volto. And why would they make no sense in a fantasy dungeon game, if the quest we know them from is about a volto ruling a fantasy dungeon? You can make them, e.g., more intelligent than humans, and maybe more charismatic as well. And if there would be no humans, then this doesn't even matter. But that's only my opinion, of course.
I believe Weaver's stated his aim is for a more narrow race selection this time around. The idea behind the MUD is that all players are typical dungeon minions (thus the Goblin, Kobold, Ogre selections right now.) The goal is that we're on the other side of the coin - we aren't the adventurers, we're the adventurees. So civilized races like Voltos and such aren't appropriate.--TLE 05:43, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
* Classes. I suggest to make the Apprentice class obligatory for the aforementioned "newbies" (players with lvl < x, who can choose to be PK or not, and who autorecall into their village when killed instead of becoming a zombie goast). So. While they are "newbies", they all have the Apprentice class, during which time they could choose one of the mining/simple crafting skills, and create materials/necessary items for their village. When they reach lvl x, they can choose one of the adventuring classes, or probably someone chooses to continue learning higher crafting skills and become an Artisan (though I think, the latter choice will be mostly for alts, if they would be allowed). The reason for such system: I think very few people would choose Apprentice/Artisan as a starting class. But if every player has to go through the Apprentice phase, they would become a somewhat steady income of materials and necessary items for their village. If the income of new players stops at some moment... well, then it would be up to adventurers themselves to provide materials for their villages' artisans, so they would get weapons, rations etc.
* Skills. You mentioned that there would be a need to remove several skills unrelated to the dungeon theme. That's true, but I also think there would probably be a need to add a number of skills related to exploration and survival in the dungeon. E.g., a skill of mushroom knowledge, a skill of seeing in the dark, probably skills of echolocation or heatview or smth, a skill of balancing on narrow ledges and bridges, a skill determining the chances of squeezing into tight openings (ahem... it sounded almost pornographic lol), etc. etc. Another idea: I would suggest no auto-mapping, and to frown upon players distributing maps via internet. Instead, to add a mapping skill, which would help produce maps of the portion of dungeon the player has explored. So, they could then sell these maps to other players, with more complete maps obviously costing more. Thus, exploring for the sake of exploring would become not just interesting, but somewhat profitable, too!
* Mobs. I suggest there should be not just mobs which logically fit into the setting and are appropriate to the biology of the planet etc. etc., but more humourous mobs as well (derived from various quests). E.g., a Grue, or a fGhost, or the aforementioned high-level boss Watercooler, etc. Now, some people would not be amused by this suggestion, but hear me out. First of all, it's TGChan's MUD, so it would be a pity if people couldn't meet many of their favourite quest chars, even as mob races. Second, a completely serious and totally logical quest is quite a rare sight - even the most serious of them are at least a slight bit humourous, and a slight bit illogical. And last but not least, it's a giant mysterious dungeon. Xom only knows what lurks in its depths! And, btw, if Xom knows, it even raises the chances of meeting weird and absurd creatures. So... it's my own subjective opinion, of course.
Seconding Driblis's vote. Also, minor dismemberments like lost eyes, ears, fingers etc, scars from physical attacks and burns from magical ones, could be pretty cool for aesthetics and roleplaying. Does the system allow this? --Zulfiqar 14:59, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
NO, it's more interesting and immersive if we can't tell numerically how much health the enemy has remaining. Over time, we'll learn how much damage enemies can take simply by fighting them. --Ashsflames 23:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
MULTI because I like having characters that have stupid builds based on stories I make up in my head, not just what the game says I can do. --Driblis 00:51, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
--Ashsflames 23:25, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
but it explodes soon after. She is knocked into the next area.

In the next area, she finds a wrench, fixes the power, and then fixes the pipes on the

gateway. She mines some ore and puts it in the refinery which then breaks. She then enters

the door across from the still locked gate. Inside is water. Asali is deathly afraid of

water. She explores the room and starts to fix the draining system.

She leaves the entrance of the pool back into the mine and is confronted with a Large Large.

She dashes back into the pool and smashes its head with the Vibro-hammer when it tries to

squeeze through. She then finishes the drain, and travels through the Pools of water, to

find a deep chasm. She can't fix the bridge so she goes back into the mine and finds the

last piece of the gateway, entering what was locked away before.

Chapter Three
Inside is a large red temple to the deity, Rong. She hears a strange male voice tell her to

go inside of the temple. She uncovers a red arrow on the ground and then goes inside. Inside

she finds an Abnormal Monster of some sort. He is mute, and she gives him the stick (which

turned out to be an ancient flute), and the bucket. He then offers to improve her warping

power for 10 points, and she pays it. She picks up the first aid kit, and Eden was

gone.

She leaves the temple and goes to the other side of the stairs. She smells something nice

and finds a strange tablet against the wall. She goes back to the other side and finds a

loose tile before leaving. Out in the mines again she replaces her bandages and sees

something strange. She shines her flashlight on the Greatest Spirit, Skel-Monsta, who reigns

over Life and Death.

She tries to run but trips, forced to Warp away at the last second before she is almost

touched. In the pools again she begins running through the path all the way to the bridge.

Her warp was still locked so she fixes the bridge with the chain and everything else she

already had, and runs across. She barely escapes the snake like monster in the chasm and

makes it outside.

Upon going outside, she goes to one of the many areas now available, flipping a turtle to

its feet and entering HONEST IKIT'S QUALITY SHOP. She is greeted by the Complete Furry

Rat.

IKIT offers goggles for Asali's flashlight, and she hesitantly accepts the trade. She buys a

Rainbow Buster firework, and finds out that the town was killed by a Black Plague. She

leaves and goes to the town. The town of Chilitown's sign is damaged and covered in blood.

Chapter Four
Asali enters Chilitown. Four out of six buildings are wrecked. She checks the newspaper and

sees that a reporter named Fang Tian and some of the citizens were dealing with the Black

Plague. She checks the police station first. There is blood everywhere. She finds a locked

dressar drawer in one of the rooms. She checks out the place and instead of figuring out the

combination to the locker, she smashes and unhinges it. She gets some blood wine.

Asali enters the hut in between the in tact buildings. Inside is Mint, a drugged up Bubble

Held from the Orach clan. She has a hookah going and offers Asali some drugs. She doesn't

want Asali around but offers drugs for liquor or Points. Asali buy some drugs, and trades

the mushroom for a Rainbow Leaf, and gets some points back for the Blood Wine.

Asali heads to the bank and tries to talk to a cardboard cutout she thought was a clerk for

a moment. She uses the code on the back to open the safe for a good chunk of money. She goes

to the wrecked site of all the buildings and almost dies twice to get a picture from a

box.

When she leaves the wrecked buildings the street is filled with Bombignants and a ghost. She

gets her hammer out just in case when a black creature kills all but one Bombignant. Asali

assaults the humanoid shadow monster and smashes it to the ground.

She talks to the Bombignant and it dances for her. She asks the ghost about it, and finds

out his name is Paul. (No, not Paul, it's Paul)! Paul, not Paul, requests help to write a

letter to Mint. Asali agrees so Paul possesses her and writes the letter. Asali delivers it

to Mint. Mint seems happy to hear from him, but jokes around the fact he is dead.

Asali then goes to HONEST IKIT'S and Trades her Bubble Dust and Rainbow Leaf for a Magic Jar

and Necromancy Book. Asali then heads to the Gardens and gets pummeled almost to death by

the Naviabull in the intersection. She then meets Queen Atasusa of the Fire Flowers in her

cave. She is dying and her people are all gone by the black plague. She requests Asali's

aid. Asali cannot figure out what to do so she takes the pine cone from the hollow tree

trunk and leaves.

She races across the intersection towards the other side of the gardens and is stopped by a

Flower Bouncer. Luckily Asali has the ticket from Dimitri and only needs to make one Mr. T

reference. She then dances at the party and notices a cane hooked up near the ceiling of the

flowers' cavern. She warps up, grabs it, and falls down to the floor without grace.

Chapter Five
Asali leaves the party and goes to the mountain. There is a gate missing wires and a fuse.

She picks up the porn magazine on the ground. She check the flies at the garden entrance and

leaves. She enters the graveyard, or attempts to. Asali is drawn into an insult battle with

Gamma. With some difficulty she defeats him and gains access to the Grave Site.

She Gives him the picture and fixes his washing machine. The Washing Machine is apparently a

female to Gamma, and is his only companion beyond yourself to a more recent extent. You are

informed the area has been looted by Gamma, and that he can't fit down into the

Mausoleum.

She then enters the Mausoleum and uses Pre-cognition. There are dials on the wall, a jar on

a shrine slab, and a statue. Asali takes the circlet off the statue, moves the statue, picks

up wires, and reads the Tablet. She then puts stuff into the jar to no avail. Eventually she

solves the dial puzzle. She gets the medallion from its hidden compartment.

Even with all of the items she thinks she can't seem to summon Duke Hoppite the III. She

tries saying his name a bit. Then she fiddles with the dials more. She removes the items

from the jar, including a vial of blood she finds inside of it trying to get the rest of her

stuff.

After some experimentation she pours the blood over the other items. The duke is summoned.

He turns out to be an arrogant prick. Apparently the murderer mentioned in Nisha's office

killed him. He asks for his whereabouts, and seems interested in revenge against the Shadow,

explaining how dangerous he is.

Hoppite awards Asali the key to the treasure room. The room has a trapped treasure chest.

With some help from her pre-cognition she manages to solve the death trap and leave with

another chunk of money.

Asali goes to the forest. The forest is closed in on itself due to the biggest tree at the

entrance being so angry. Angry Tree seems discontent with his pain and lack of brains. She

convinces him that a decorated pinecone are tree brains. He seems pleased by Asali's offer,

and is still angry and in pain WITH BRAINS. She wishes him an enraging day and goes deeper

into the forest.

In the forest path Asali smells the fragrance from the tablets. She finds it by tripping

over it. She goes towards the exit of the path and uses pre-cognition due to the noises

Asali hears. Her vision suggests, "To the left." Asali is shot.

Tgchan features a stable of creatures that show up regularly in various quests. Some of these races, such as Dwarfs and Goblins, are reliable fantasy standbys that have been around since the ass-end of forever. Others - like Nevyndors, Lohrkes and Indahls - were created by tgchan regulars, and have become popular enough to show up in multiple quests.
Below is a listing of some of the races, along with a brief description and notable members of each species.

BiteQuest is a quest author named for their first quest, Bite Quest. In other words, Bite Quest is BiteQuest's Quest. Clear? Good.

BiteQuest also did a one-shot FlareQuest thread, and is currently authoring Crowmanticar.

TGMUD is a text-based action/adventure game. It is currently developed by quest authors and the project is headed by Squeegy AKA John_Freeman. The areas are constantly expanding, new quests, enemies, and things to do are added daily, hourly, even minutely. An optional tutorial is fairly fleshed out, going through the basics of playing before releasing the player on the world with a few cautionary warnings.

The chat channel is #tgmud on irc.rizon.net. The game IP is tgmud.servegame.com, and the PORT is 23. If you don't have a client, try MUSHclient.
Areas
Area currently open to exploration:

*AlienQuest
*Catarnia
*Sorpigal
*Jiflobrildus

The different areas are connected either by land or by the Realm of Infinite Psyche, which has five rooms. The downstairs is a hub of portals (cracks in reality) that lead to different places which can be viewed with the 'look' command. The upstairs is a lounge, including a respawning torch chest, a leather couch (for <s>fucking</s> resting your tired limbs), and water cooler of infinite psyche. It is a good meeting and regrouping area for players. You can also buy training sessions and practice points from the shopkeep in the Realm, using quest points gained through completion of quests.

Playable Races
Races currently playable:

*Clockwork
*Cutebold
*Dorf
*Elf
*Gnoll
*Goblin
*Gour
*Halfbold
*Halfling
*Human
*Lohrke
*Nedynvor
*Ophian
*Orc
*Ratman
*Sergal
*Talyxian
*Tonberry
*Volto
*Wolperting

Each have different bonuses and penalties that make them partial to one class or another. Races are added on the whims of the developers.

Stats
There are six stats:

*Strength - Impacts accuracy and aim, may impact damage.
*Intelligence - Memory and constitution, ability to gain greater proficiency in skills and spells.
*Dexterity - Agility and the ability to dodge blows.
*Wisdom - Intuition, wit, and the ability to gain more practice/training points per level.
*Constitution - Health, stamina, hit points.
*Charisma - Grace, charm, lowered prices, and higher sell rates.

Unfortunately, these are fairly rooted into the game and would be difficult to change into the DorfQuest five, or rename to better reflect their purpose.
