"That stories start at the beginning is not a given here. Nothing at all is given, for that matter. Yet, fortune favors Fools in this case. That is assuming they are inclined themselves to commit to matters in any semblance of order."
- An anonymous article titled "On the Transcendant Arcana," submitted to Foxglove Academy's Department of Philosophy, c. 1895AT, before being promptly burned.

It feels like only yesterday that I stepped into the hallowed halls of Foxglove Academy, on a cloudy day such as this. Now it's the last I'll see of it for a while, I think. I am unsure whether I am happy to see myself out. Unsure of whether I am ready.

That I've been restless in my sleep recently does not help matters.

I was never a very social person. I preferred the quiet corners where none could disturb my studies. Could you blame me? Getting accepted into this institution meant an escape from my life of squalor as an orphan. Now I was an orphan with a diploma. But no. I had no time for wine and good conversation like those who didn't have to work to attend here. Just as I was alone entering this place, so too do I leave alone as a graduate majoring in Archeology.

I had just one ally in getting this far; Professor Kalis Kosraeu of the Department of Archeology. His theories on the nature of the erased kingdom out on the Cestellian continent and how it relates to the bizarre fossil layers up north in Valtheim were fascinating. His class wasn't popular, as many found his demeanor to be alarming, but that was the fault of his passion and nothing else. He even gave more private lessons on the weekends, with no price of entry beyond an eagerness to learn.

However, I failed to see him during the academic procession, and still cannot find him now. I can't help but wonder whether he's come down with an illness, or got tied up with some other obligation more pertinent than the commencement ceremony. Or perhaps something altogether more unsavory. I shouldn't let my mind run away with such worries, however. I'm sure his absence will be explained at a later date, so for now…

"Hey, if anyone has no-one waiting for them, we're holding a celebration down at the Merry Child. It's the tavern on Gossamer and Pollyanna a few blocks down from the side gate here, you cannot miss it!"

I apply to the bawdry former student's invitation, but I'm unsure of whether I should go.

Join those classmates for an afterparty: I never did get around to making friends. In essence, I spent too long waiting for others to approach me. Professor Kosraeu assured me that there is no fault in solidarity, and yet… perhaps I can start rectifying this lack as I take this final step into the brave new world?
Meet an exceptionally compatible comrade when their heart is most open to your approach.

Seek out Professor Kosraeu: It won't be the first visitation on my part. The professor works out of a side house on his sister's estate, and I know the way better than the alleys surrounding the court where I live. If all is well, he can congratulate me then and there, and that will be that. A small, irrational part of me still can't help but fear the worst, however. His family was somewhat cold towards his other students and me.
Obtain what you are destined to receive regardless, but hopefully delay the reveal of your identity to an enemy.

Go straight to bed: Today has been exhausting. Perhaps I should get all of my post-ceremony procedures (returning the robe, hanging up my diploma, etc.) over with and be done with the day altogether. A celebratory meal can wait for tomorrow, and I do prefer eating alone, anyway. Perhaps this is the answer to my uneasy dreams.
Share a word with a revealing guide before he disappears further into the deck.

Seek out the Professor, it's best to celebrate with those you are close to, rather than people you only know in passing.

Seek the professor's company, better to have one friend in hand than to chase after acquaintances.

Seek out the professor. It would mean a lot if you thanked him.

Seek the Professor; while everyone else is busy partying, reinforce your connections. Perhaps he'll consider you as an assistant for his next expedition.

Seems like party is more risk, more reward.

Party it is. Let's get us some friends

It is tempting to join my classmates, to dismiss my worry for the good professor. Kalis Kosraeu has taken frequent leaves of absence in the past whenever he finds an especial cause for excitement in his research. With his manic reputation, my peers have made bets on occasion as to whether this would be the time when he attempts something dangerous. I had not the courage to rebuke them, but I sometimes wonder what exactly he does when he goes on one of his trips or locks himself away for days on end.

I cannot leave him be this time. If he would even miss the graduation ceremony, it would have to be for something significant. Its nature matters not - if dire, he may need my help, and if grand, then our celebration will be all the sweeter. Better to celebrate with those you are familiar with. Now that I think about it, I am a graduand no longer, so perhaps I could seek employment as his assistant? After all, I am without work since quitting my job as a general store clerk.

It is something of a jaunt to his sister's estate after I return everything superfluous to my apartment. The grey clouds that gathered this afternoon have begun to weep in full. Weather fit more for a funeral procession than one of graduation. I fear I will be catching something tonight if the house does not deem to lend me an umbrella.

I am standing at the side gate out behind the east wing granted to Professor Kosraeu as a place of residence and lecture. My instinct was to enter this way like I did for his private classes, but at this hour, and with nothing scheduled, I might be taken for a robber. The prospect of going back around to the main entrance and announcing myself is unappealing, however. If Madam Tabernathy, her husband, or her head servant answered, I could be turned away. Then and there, my presence would be even more unwelcome than before.

No matter what it is, I need a course of action: How might I approach the estate's interior?

Try the gate, is it locked? Otherwise, is there anything around for you to stand on to get over the wall?

Just barge in before you get pneumonia.

That gate might creak something awful.
Find something stable to stand on and scale the wall.
If you keep low to the ground, you shouldn't be spotted in the darkness and rain.
