Yesterday was a blur. They ended up keeping you in the infirmary overnight, so they could monitor your health; between the frequent examinations and the steady trickle of well-wishers showing up to ask how you were doing, you didn't get much opportunity to make sense of your current situation, let alone ask any of the growing number of questions floating around in your head. Of all the things puzzling you about this place, the people themselves are the greatest mystery. They've been friendly and welcoming, sure; but sometimes it feels like they find you familiar in some way. They keep calling you Sigarzghar,, too, and you have no clue why.

But these confusions don't trouble you -- you find the others more worrying, such as why you were in a coma for three days, or why all your posessions are missing from your pockets. You wonder how long you'll be stuck in this place, but you don't have much in the way of leads to figure out where else to go -- there're Delaney and Quincy over on Gansett shelf, the tentacle twins on the Concourse, and... that's about it. You're not sure how you'd get to either of those places from here, so you certainly feel stuck. Right now, more than anything else, you need answers.

You suppose that's why you're waiting here. They discharged you from the infirmary shortly after you awoke this morning, and led you here, telling you that Cider has invited you to her quarters to discuss a few things. You get the impression she's in charge around here; surely she can help you make sense of why you're here and how you arrived, and perhaps what to do next. At the moment there's already a visitor in there with her, judging from the muffled sounds of conversation; you wager it's been 20 minutes already, and you hope it isn't going to take much longer.

Yes, getting aggressive with an entity that we don't understand and that has information about our past is a great idea. Simply put outstanding move.

Well Dollar didn't bite us right away, so that's nice. Hopefully it's a hallucination. Tell 'em that being vague is gonna get both of us nowhere, so give us a specific task and piece of information, or get outta here! We're trying to relax!

"Well, since you look like me, I'm going to call you Dollar, okay?" You feel like you're making a joke, but you aren't sure what it is.

Names are fleeting. How many have you left behind?

"Why don't you tell me?"

Omen, or Dollar, doesn't respond.

>Since you're aware that this is a dream, you should be able to control your surroundings. Imagine changing the scene to... the sofa in Cider's living room. Maybe you lying on it or something. Should be more comfortable than the tub.
Your surroundings melt away and reform, giving way to your will; soon you find yourself on Cider's couch, which you take as confirmation that you are indeed dreaming. The room seems vague and poorly-defined in spots, however; you guess the room is constructed from your best memories of it. Your body, too, seems to have not made the transition properly, leaving you in the form of a head attached to a body that ebbs away from you like water. Surprisingly, it doesn't bother you, so you decide to ignore it for now.

A liar sleeps here, Omen muses, that same toothy smile on its face. It settles into a bean-bag chair; its body is as undefined as yours, but you think it was that way in the hot tub, too.

"You mean Cider?" You ask, but Omen only smiles in response. "Never mind. So is this just a dream?"

We immerse in the shuddering expanse beneath.

You sigh, rubbing your temple with an ill-defined appendage. "Can we quit it with the cryptic bullshit? You said you want to prepare me for what's to come, so how about you just tell me about it, and I'll do the preparing myself."

Omen frowns, or maybe pouts, shaking its head. Intention floods the expanse. Directness at this distance would invite... interference.

"What does that even mean?" A smile, again, is its only answer. Perhaps you're just imagining this thing, and it can't tell you anything useful.

>Can we make out?
>Can we screw?
>Ask if Omen is dtf, maybe they need some stress relief
You aren't quite desperate enough to have dream-sex with a monstrous doppelganger of yourself. You think.

As if in response to your thoughts, Omen nestles itself against your body; the fringes of your ill-defined forms flow into each other, creating patterns through the space surrounding you. It lies its head against what would be your chest, almost affectionately.

Spiritual congress... would narrow the gap, it sighs.

"What can you tell me?" You ask, frustrated by the vagueness of Omen's answers. "What do you want to prepare me for?"

Powerful hands pull at the Gordian knot! The blade they cannot wield rests in your lap. It bares its teeth in an expression you can't quite read -- is it amused? Menacing? Both? Some seek to stay your hand, others to guide it... but few to cleave the knot in twain.

Your mind is flooded with questions to ask this thing -- assuming its answers are worthwhile at all -- but how long do you have until Roz comes back?

>Directness at this distance would invite... interference
>Spiritual congress... would narrow the gap
So if we had sex with her, it would allow us to converse with her in a more straightforward manner and gain better insight into the future?

I'm ok with this. Tell Omen that you're all for, uh, spiritual congress if that's what she wants. Because you'd like to be well prepared and stuff.

Of course, you should first put some mental work into imagining your body to look properly.

As for the questions, besides the ones I already wrote, you could ask... is the liar one of the hands that pull?
>>
No. 953259 ID: ce39da

> Things deduced from ramblings.
If this isn't a fever dream, then Omen truly is a separate entity.
We're essential to coming events somehow, and so was our predecessor, and some people are aware of this.
Spiritual congress - Soul orgy? - would cause things to be less confusing in the future, assuming Omen can be trusted.

> What ask.
"Could you elaborate on the nature of this knot?"
"Could you elaborate on the nature of the 'knife' I wield?"
"Could you elaborate on who's interested in these things?"

'Could you elaborate' offers Omen the reigns on deciding what's safe to divulge; asking direct pointed questions seems to make them clam up, and yes/no guesswork is right out.

Dollar might be a sort of amalgamation of your past lives, before dusting themselves in an odd sort of reincarnation. It has a goal for you in mind, and is implying you has some sort of knowledge or power that people would want. Now why it can't just tell you what it is is beyond me.

Suggests to me that this is a kind of 'wiretapped' line for it, so what it can say is moderated

Makes sense, seems like a good idea. I would add 'Could you elaborate on "interference"'

Actually, in retrospect, if it IS being 'wiretapped', then begging for spoonfeeding won't get us anywhere. We'll have to intuit things a bit- but it's still our decision.

Why not just ask it: "So, anywhere outside this rock that might be interesting for these 'preparations'?

Might as well have a to-do list once we escape. Stave off the boredom.
>>

Okay, that's very worrying. Somehow, we have an item or weapon meant to destroy/demolish something of great and likely terrible importance to no less than three unknown parties who are in opposition to each other and our guide is being vague as hell because they're being spied on.

So with that said, let's try something.

Think, don't ask, if Omen can get away with nodding her head or shaking it in this dream without tipping off the interfering party.

If she nods her head your next thought should be if you speaking also tips off the interfering party.

If the answer to both of these is an affirmative yes then we've got something to work with.
>>
No. 953280 ID: e51896

not to make you feel exposed but, did you lose your towel? It probably doesn't matter since it is a dream, but it still makes you feel uncomfortable being somewhere a little more public under dressed.

>>953279
This, but don't mention "interfering party". Play dumb. just ask something along the lines if Omen can just answer yes or no questions and nod or shake its head to the questions instead.

Evidently we were a MASSIVE HECKIN' NERD before, because our doppel (Dollarganger?) is referencing ancient legend and history.

It's actually a clever one, too: the so-called knot is an impossible task, the blade the means to work around it.

Evidently our changing perception (ergo the blade) might well be the only means to unravel it.

But why would Omen caution us by saying that the proverbial cutting of the impossible knot would serve little purpose, in that few would even think to try?

"Staying our hand" might mean to maintain the status quo -- a reference to Cider, perhaps, who we've feared has not been forthcoming?

The one who seeks to guide it might be Millie, who seems a little ... too forward about trying to infer that learning this truth is meaningful.

... is then the knot ourselves? Our past memories and dust, expunged by taffa?

It would seem so, given that Omen/Dollar seems to not only know our thoughts to some degree (its reference to spiritual congress), but as well that the interface and divide are not merely the dream itself, but our distance from our former self, who this doppelganger represents. An imagined act of an equally symbolic gesture -- becoming as one -- might allow us to see into Omen's mind.

Omen, by their own admission, is our subconscious self. They reside within our mind and our memories.

What worries me is their claims of intent -- that to speak openly, to be the one to guide our actions (and thus alter our perception of the "knot"), could change what will be.

But then again is the lot of this just prophetic history.

If you're gonna bone the dream-thing, you better ask if there will be any consequences from the act aside from easier communication.
One question and cryptic answer before that though: why did you try to erase your memories? I can think of a few possibilities:
1, to escape Omen because it's bad news
2, to destroy the "blade"
3, to use the "blade" somehow by allowing your body to be bodysnatched
Even a cryptic response should fit one of these three possibilities. If it's 1, do not engage in spiritual congress.

If you "close the gap", then you should ask about the hologram thing, and retread some of your earlier questions that didn't get a good response. Like for instance, what is the knot, and what is the blade? Also, can you trust *anyone* here?

You've missed the entire point of my suggestion. Penny didn't even get to saying anything about having intercourse with omen, she just thought about it and then omen immediately responded to penny's thoughts as if penny had actually spoken.

That alone is worth investigating.

>Here lies a liar.
It's either Cider or you. I'm leaning towards you, since you crafted this dreamscape (a lie), and you are the one 'lying' on the sofa. It's not a bedroom, too, so it being Cider doesn't quite make sense. If it is you, it's likely also a deep cut against your past self: they were a liar; a hint that corresponds with the earlier question 'How many names have you left behind?'

Hmmm. All of this could still be weirdly cohesive memories from your past life reaching out to you, but... I'm starting to wonder, especially at the reference to 'distance' and 'expanse'. This thing, whatever it is, is suggesting that it is somewhere else, reaching out to you. Like, some weird communication thing - maybe done through your Dust, which I guess can then be detected and intercepted, which is why this has to be kept dreamlike and vague?

In that case your past self clings tighter to you than you'd like, for if Dollar can 'find' you again, others might as well. Shit.

>Gordian knot, blade, guide or stay, few to cleave in twain
This is quite difficult to parse, but it seems to be saying you have something intrinsic to you - or on you - that others want you to use to resolve a complex, difficult matter one way or another. Maybe there is some weirdness to your Dust that allows you to do something? You know that it is a little unusual, due to how you reacted to the glyph and how Mint seems to think that you're different from others.

I would advice not dragging this out, even for 'spiritual congress' to clarify matters (though, by all means, blep that tongue). Falling asleep in a bath may not be the best idea, for one. Spacing out may also set Roz to worry. Or we could lose grip on our towel, oh dear!

Erk. Before you end this vision, ask if Dollar if can tell you anything that isn't important or significant, but which will prove that this session, whatever it is, was the real mccoy. Something you wouldn't know, but can verify.

To cut the knot is to solve the problem and you're the only one with a blade. What is the problem, should it be solved? Or is this a mixed metaphor, and the knot is something integral to the world? But still, who is the few who want it cut? Maybe you should cut it...

You need to know what, where, and why the knot is. You need to know the same about your sword. If you got closer... But you said you didn't want to. I doubt Omen isn't going to show up later, maybe you'll feel more in the mood then.

You try thinking, rather than saying, about whether Omen can answer questions by nodding its head, without tipping off whoever might be eavesdropping. What's in a name? Omen responds, seemingly confirming that it can read your thoughts. That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

That seems like... a less than encouraging answer. "What are the consequences of, uh, 'spiritual congress'?"

The memory is unforgettable, Omen responds.

You feel a little uneasy about the prospect of sex -- or "spiritual congress" -- with this thing, but you are nevertheless drawn in by the temptation of getting better answers out of it. You tell yourself that this is only occurring inside the dreamscape... it's less than real. "...I'll do it," you sigh. "This spiritual congress thing. If it means you can be less vague."

In a split second you find yourself pinned to the couch by a pair of legs Omen didn't have before, with your body restored to its usual form; it -- she? -- looms over you, letting you drink in the sight of her now-formed body. Like with her head, she seems to have adopted a more animalistic take on your own form; she resembles you superficially, but every inch of her is lean and rippling with toned muscle. You glance downwards, and see that she is sporting the same "equipment" as you, too, although you're unsure how concrete such things are in this place.

You wonder if you should say anything, but Omen answers that by diving in close and locking her lips with yours. Her tongue snakes into your mouth, filling it to the point that it feels like she's going to go down your throat. You struggle for a moment, but she reaches behind your head and caresses your ear, which calms you a bit.

Relax, Omen's voice rings in your head, Through this carnal embrace, we are closer now. It feels strangely soothing, perhaps even intoxicating, to hear her say it. Now, you have questions. Ask them.

Oh, right, questions, you think, your mind still reeling a bit from what just happened. Some of the haze from earlier remains, but you feel a new apprehension in the face of Omen's sudden advances. Still, you're doing this for information, you remind yourself, and having your doppelganger's tongue shoved in your mouth will hopefully be worth it in light of Omen's answers. You take a moment to recall the questions you had in mind:

A) Is the liar one of the hands that pull?
B) What is the knot?
C) What is the blade?
D) Who is interested in these things?
E) Can you elaborate on "interference?"
F) Is there anywhere outside this rock that might be interesting for these "preparations"?
G) Why did I erase my memories?
H) Do you know anything about the hologram under Millie's ear?

Something tells me that, even though we're doing this, we shouldn't expect Omen to be able to give us much better answers. After all, this is still just a dream and there's still a certain distance and various kinds of abstractions at play.

You should be a bit more feisty and pull on one of Omen's ears. Whether it should be towards you or away, depends. But what's important is that you should try to enjoy this situation as much as possible rather than fight it.

As for action, try changing the scenery again. Be a little experimental. I think that's the point; the congress they spoke of. We're essentially becoming as one, allowing communication which transcends this mere dream-speaking.

The question is, do we truly want to become one with Dollar? What is the consequences of becoming one with Dollar? Dollar is a stranger after all and we are just allowing this...

>As for action, try changing the scenery again. Be a little experimental. For example, Roz is always talking about you trying out being a nudist, so lets try changing the scenery to somewhere more public, like the city we flew overhead the other day, and see what the appeal Roz finds in exhibitionism. Reassure yourself your only dreaming.

I approve this action, if only to get Penny to be a little less self-conscious about her body and nudity in general and slowly start easing into it.

K, J and G, in that exact order. Let's make sure to establish that this isn't some kind of hallucination and that we can get more information out of Omen here at a later date.

I feel really bad for Penny. Our collective hornyness is pushing her into a situation that she clearly isn't 100% comfortable with. It feels a bit icky.

G, I, and D sound good, yeah.

Also very agreed.

Ogling Roz and Big Dong Lizard Guy was one thing, but losing all agency within a situation wherein we are no longer certain of our own consciousness, let alone whether this is something we remotely feel comfortable doing ...?

If this is how we are, maybe there really is a reason we wanted to be rid of Omen and erase our memories.

I'm sorry if this situation comes off as excessive or too uncomfortable -- I can't give much explanation without spoiling things, but there are important plot reasons for Omen's behavior apart from any sexual considerations, if that's any consolation.

Also, I normally try to avoid explicitly going "hey this is a viable option" most of the time, but in this case I think it might be helpful to say that Penny doesn't have to take this, uh, lying down. Trying to gain the upper hand (so to speak) or just rejecting the situation entirely are completely valid and viable options. Obviously, what happens depends on what the consensus among suggesters looks like, but this is not a situation in which Penny is powerless.

>>953762
That's what I was aiming for, yes. Generally speaking, I try to treat suggesters as part of Penny's psyche; so polarized disagreement, like with the previous round of suggestions, manifests as indecision or reluctance on her part. In this case, the general idea is that Penny feels apprehensive about sex with Omen, but really wants the information she can potentially gain from it.

If that's the case then by god Penny is going to be the dom in this weird mind sex relationship! we will counter her Tongue with our own, because if we're doing this, and we are doing this, then WE are doing it our way.

On second thought, I'm changing my mind, as much as I want Penny's memories back, and some lewd action, doing it this way just seems like a very bad idea, especially since it is with something we know nothing about, a complete stranger. Something about this feels really wrong.

If it turns out we are going through with this in the end, I'll still go with my previous questions and action: >>953689, but overall, getting our memories back this way just feels wrong, there are other ways to get our memories back. This whole thing feels like a deal with the devil in a weird way, dream or not. I don't care if the ends justifies the means.

Wasn't one of the services that Delaney Security Services provides was memory acquisition and analysis? that could be another method to regaining Penny's memories if she can get in contact with them, especially since she has some connection with them anyway with the jumpsuit she was wearing being owned by them. That is another method besides omen.

Omen's method is a lot more fun than using Delaney's services. Besides, we want answers now, not later, especially since we don't know much about this Vesper place. Best to het as much info as soon as possible.
