You work at a brunch place slinging eggs benedict and mimosas from early morning until midafternoon. Luckily it’s a weekday so you’re not swamped with tables, but there are also fewer fellow waiters on duty to share the load. You’ve been working there almost half a year now and you’re used to the fast-paced environment though it’s definitely not the best paying job.

It’s also quite tiring, and by the time you finish your shift and take the bus home, you’re exhausted. Your days off are Monday and Tuesday so you’ll have limited time the rest of the week for your own pursuits. You have some leftover chili for lunch and ponder what to do next. It sounds like everyone is here from the muffled voices behind each bedroom door.

Rather than play League you get on your computer and mindlessly browse the internet with a cold glass of water on hand. Once you get sleepy you take a short nap and wake up feeling refreshed.

>Random encounter time
You’re back to browsing the internet when you spot Julia approaching your open door on the right side of your peripheral vision. There’s a round Asian woman at her side with eye shadow and a pixie cut.

Julia: Hey Beck, how’s it going?
Beck: Just chilling, what’s up?
Julia: Oh, I thought I’d get some of my stuff out of your room. Lots of pricey knives in there and some of my old trophies.
Beck: Sure.
Julia: And then we have to continue your training or you’ll forget all the tech I just taught you! The grind never ends.

You have time for one more action before you go to bed. Julia will be disappointed if you don’t game with her.

Julia and the woman take a few boxes across the hall to Julia’s room while you twiddle your thumbs helpfully.

Beck: Who’s your friend?
Julia: Friend? Friend? Beck this is my smoking hot big tiddy goth girlfriend Yen, show some respect.
Beck: Uh, cool, hello.
Julia: And we’re going to be having lots of loud sex buster so you better get used to talking to me with a straight face.
Beck:
Julia: That’s not how you do it at all, get it together man.
Yen: ‘Sup.
Beck: Hello, again.

Yen seems like a homosexual of few words, unlike Julia. She thankfully goes back to ignoring you almost immediately.

You seat yourself back at Julia’s setup while Yen lies on the bed and thumbs through her phone. Instead of using Sal, Julia picks a much larger character, a weird white figure with torso eyes.

Julia: Duck’s Head has bigger hitboxes, so it’s easier to hit, but it’s also heavy and a zoner. Good luck dodging all the attacks!

You get thrashed in a very frustrating manner. It’s hard to weave Carbon’s large body around all the area of effect special moves and you go to bed grumpy.

College is a bit of a sore subject for you since you dropped out after freshman year. You don’t think you have the motivation or time to attend traditional on campus stuff again, so maybe you can teach yourself a skill or take some classes online. Coding would probably be the most lucrative and feasible though you don’t have any passion for it.

You’re not sure if any of your housemates have a professional education since you haven’t brought it up. Maybe one of them could give you some advice?

You’re closest with Zach, so you knock on his door and announce yourself.

Zach: Just a sec! Streaming, let me turn off the camera and mic, then you can come in.
Beck: I don’t want to interrupt—
Zach: It’s fine, I can play Hearthstone with my eyes closed. What’s up?

Zach’s room is neat, orderly, and well-decorated with tasteful anime posters. You step inside cautiously and spot the man at his desk while chat rushes down his second monitor. He’s clicking through his turn with only half his attention on the screen.

Beck: I was thinking about taking some online classes or something, do you have any suggestions? Also, what did the people here go to school for?
Zach: Oh, I was a biology major actually, but that’s usually hard to get a good job for unless you go to med school. Julia didn’t go to college, Wyatt is a computer science guy and Steven did some kind of engineering, mechanical I think?

Zach: Oh, I’ve just been thinking about me and Percy. She’s a wonderful, smart gal and I’m very lucky that we’re dating.
Beck: But?
Zach: I don’t want to sound ungrateful or anything or that there’s anything wrong with her but she’s ace and I’ve been wanting to try some, er, more kinky stuff, not sex stuff necessarily, and I’m afraid to ask her about it because she’s made it clear she’s not interested in sex and the BDSM stuff is usually considered sex adjacent, so I dunno how to bring it up without overstepping.

You’ve learned about Zach’s mission, kind of? It seems more like some kind of internal hang-up than anything. What’s your advice?
>>
No. 1038692 ID: 629f2e

You're ace too, so maybe your perspective might help him out here. She is personally disinterested in sex. That doesn't mean she won't be willing to do anything with Zach, she mightbe willing to try if he asks. It's like when you listen to your partner ramble on about something they care about for a while that you know jack shit about. You may not really care about that game they've been explaining the lore of, but you listen anyway because their happiness as they speak makes you happy too. Sex could be like that for Percy, or maybe she's not just disinterested but strongly opposed. No way of knowing without at least talking about it. Communication is the most important thing in any relationship.
>>
No. 1038695 ID: 03c437

If El Goonish Shive fanfic has taught me anything, the best not-exactly-BDSM kink for an ace lady is petplay.
>>
No. 1038707 ID: 7b75ea

What kind of Ace is she? If she's merely unenthused by it, most kinds of BDSM should be fine, but you should talk to her first to be safe. If she has an active distaste for it, maybe have a conversation exploring that before broaching anything? It's possible it's just that she doesn't want any other people's crotches approaching hers, which means BDSM might still be fine. If she can't even look at someone orgasming, then maybe it's time to drop it.

You want to clarify a few things before you drop the hot knowledge.

Beck: Have you talked to her before about this? Is she the kind of ace who doesn’t want to have sex at all or is she more demi?
Zach: We’ve talked about sex but not kink, she says she really likes me but she doesn’t have any desire to have sex with me or anyone else and I don’t want to push her. We cuddle a lot so she’s okay with contact.
Beck: That’s a fine starting point, like you said kinks don’t have to be super sexual, how about you try suggesting something like petplay? That’s good if you like praise and rewards.
Zach: I do like praise and rewards.
Beck: There you go, that’d be great. Don’t be scared to communicate more with your partner! She seems like a nice lady and I’m sure she’ll listen.
Zach: Okay…Do you really think so?
Beck: Of course I do.

Zach seems to be more cheerful after your pep talk. He finishes his sandwich and helps you wash dishes afterwards. You’ll hear about the results of his mission in a few days.

Steven seems partially nocturnal, so you listen for movement at his door before you knock. There’s the sound of a barbell thumping on the ground before the door is cracked open.

You can tell this is a sensitive topic but you’re curious.
Beck: Did you enjoy engineering?
Steven: …Yeah.
Beck: I bet it was hard though. Did you ever get to build a robot or something?
Steven: I was more manufacturing focused.
Beck: Wow, did you have an industry job or anything before you got into streaming?

Steven’s face darkens, which makes him look very threatening. You gulp.

Steven: I thought streaming would be a better choice. I regret it a lot now. Wish I had just gotten a normal job.
Beck: Well uh, it’s not too late to change careers.
Steven: I don’t have any experience though. I don’t know if anyone would hire me. I’ve been looking a little. Don’t have any people I can network with so I never get responses on my applications.

A day of spending time with Julia has rubbed off in all the wrong ways. You strike a gangly pose against the doorframe, all elbows and sharp joints, and fix a massive grin on your face. Steven looks visibly disturbed and you arrange yourself into a more presentable approach state.

Beck: Sorry, uh, don’t know what got into me there. I have a question about this lever stuff, do you mind pointing me in the right direction?

Steven nods and you show him your scratch work. He quickly sets you straight.

Beck: Thanks, oh, by the way Julia told me that Yen can help you get a job at where she works, at an investment firm. That’s technical enough, right?

Before Steven can respond, you hear a huff from the hallway. You turn to see Wyatt poking his head out of his room, drawn out by the conversation. He glares at you with a mix of dislike and…jealousy?

Wyatt: You really believe that crap, Steven? Yen and Julia are just messing with you.
Steven:
Wyatt: Remember when I first moved in and Yen told me this wasn’t the right house and I went around the whole block with my luggage before I realized? They’re a pair of b—jerks. Beck here just hasn’t learned that yet.

Steven quickly retreats without another word and you’re left to stew in bed, incensed.

You spot Wyatt coming out of the shower the next morning and take a swing at him. You don’t use your full strength and aim for his cheek. He yelps and staggers into the wall, almost dropping his towel.

Wyatt: What the FUCK? Get away from me!
Beck: Stop being an asshole, then. I was trying to help Steven yesterday when you interrupted and scared him away.

Normally I'd step down, but I feel like making drama happen

Lets keep this drama going and continue this argument! Defend yourself and help Stephen!

Tell him you'd rather not get to know Wyatt better after what he did and explain that you were only trying to help Steven gain some confidence and sort some kind of job with him when stupid little Wyatt had to butt in like the asshole he is and discourage Steven from getting a job from Yen, telling him that Yen and Julia would just lie and mess with him, and reject him from getting a job as a prank, and now you don't know if Stephen is going to have the confidence to get a job from her, or worse from others as a result as Wyatt might have lowered Steven's confidence even more from Wyatt's interaction.

get angry and yell if you need to! this is for Steven!
>>
No. 1039590 ID: 2ca3ce

You shouldnt yell, instead, you should admit that it was a heat of the moment dick move, but you should double down and explain the reason behind the action.

That continual beratement of another individual in the house is a form of abuse, psychological. That while there is a difference between what you did and what he did, you don't want someone shit talking every action you do.

Is everyone in the house okay with Wyatt lying about yen/julia's offer, claiming that she'd do this just as a prank to hurt him?

Is everyone okay with his casual mispronouning?

He just wanders in and shit talks someone immediately and no one stands up to the action. Why does that kind of action, something that would get HR called in at any job, not warrant a house meeting and discussion and this instead does?

Be willing to accept blame or even punishment, but only if Wyatt is treated to the same standards.
>>
No. 1039594 ID: 629f2e

Alright, for your part admit that it was a dick move and apologize. You got heated, simmered on that anger for a bit too long, and caught the dude by surprise. Unfair to him, that's totally on you, sorry.

But you really need to address the fact that Wyatt is a terrible housemate. Like, everyone else has made some effort to get to know you to some degree. You wouldn't think poorly of him if he didn't want to, not everyone who shares a roof has to be close friends, but so far you've only had unprompted negative interactions with him. He knowingly misgenders you, he talks shit about everyone, and your approach of leaving him to his own devices hasn't worked out because he is the one who keeps butting in and starting shit you didn't ask for.

You don't like him. You'd be happy to pretend he doesn't exist if he let you, or even to be friendly if he'd just tone it down a little. Like, if he would put in enough effort to just get your pronouns right.

>Stand up for yourself
You wait for Wyatt to leave before making your defense to Zach and Julia.

Beck: Okay, it was a dick move for me to sucker punch him, I’m sorry and I won’t do it again.
Zach: Great!
Beck: But I don’t want to know Wyatt better, every interaction I’ve had with him has been negative and he just seems like an unpleasant person. He’s still misgendering me, he told Steven that Yen was lying about her job offer which totally discouraged him, and he’s constantly talking shit to all of you!
Julia: Oh yeah, Yen and Wyatt have had beef ever since she told him this was the wrong house when he moved in and he walked around the block with all his luggage. Classic. She’s not lying about the job offer though.
Zach: Sorry about the pronouns, I’ll have a talk with him. It’s perfectly reasonable that you don’t want to interact with him, it took me a while to get used to it, Wyatt has a...strong personality.
Julia: And a whole lotta perceived wrongs against him. You know, he’d be a lot more relaxed if he finally got over his internalized homophobia and sucked a dick—
Zach: Aw c’mon Julia, not that again.

You’re not an avid hiker, but you can be convinced to take a trek into the mountains every now and then, provided someone drives.

I agree with step one of this.

As for Activity 2... Well, if you manage to complete your education, get Steven to celebrate it with! He's the only not-Wyatt main housemate we haven't gotten to Friendship 1 yet.

If Wyatt, for whatever reason, wants to bug you during all this (or Steven celebrating your achievement is a bonus to Activity 1 and doesn't count), cut him off as fast as you can with a "sorry I punched you, dude; I admit that was uncalled for." Short-circuits what he was going to do AND extends an olive branch... kinda. Look, there's nothing wrong with not wanting to be friends with him, but we want to be at the very least on neutral terms with all the people we're gonna be living with for the foreseeable future.

And if he refuses the apology... Offer to fight it out. Like, actually fight it out; like real gamers. "Name a game. Any game... that we can feasibly play today without spending more than 30 bucks." (What? It's obvious this is the dude that min-maxed [GAMING] - (virtual) strength and respect is the language he best understands.)
